Hero: Woman delivers baby while talking to 911 dispatcher
Christy Gorth takes emergency calls every day, but it was a call from a woman named Lorna Wanner she won’t soon forget.
Wanner called 911 while she was having a baby in the middle of her kitchen floor.
Her husband was at work and their three kids in bed.
“They’ve been dispatched. They’re going to get there as quickly as they can,“ Gorth said on the 911 call.
“I remember the contractions were definitely getting stronger, and Christy said you need to get down on the floor. I said, yes I know I need to, but my legs are not working right now. I’m hanging onto the counter-top for all I’m worth,“ Wanner said.
“The bed, the floor whatever is closest, it doesn’t matter, just lay down,“ Gorth said on the call.
And it was a good thing Wanner listened.
The total time from when Gorth took the call to when Wanner delivered her baby was only about 12 minutes.
“I said, ‘It’s here!’ You said, ‘What, the head?’ I said, ‘no, the whole baby!“ Wanner said on the call.
And just like that Wanner had her fourth child, Hannah.
“I think it’s a girl,” Wanner said on the call.
“You had a girl! Alright! Very good! Lorna you did awesome. I am so proud of you,“ Gorth answered.
Gorth hung on the line until the ambulance arrived.
“When I hung up the phone I started jumping up and down,“ Gorth said.
Gorth’s excitement and support is something Wanner is forever thankful for.
“It made all the difference. It was the difference between being absolutely terrified and being completely on my own to feeling that there’s somebody there who knows what they’re doing,“ Wanner said. “I’m incredibly grateful. I always will be.“
She’s not only grateful for her beautiful baby girl, but for the 911 dispatcher who helped deliver her.
