High school football fans brave the chill to cheer on the team

The high winds and low temperatures brought out only the most devoted football fans.

A few Christiansburg girls are fans, but didn’t want to get out of the car to help the guys set up the tailgate..
“We’re the smart ones, we want to stay warm and they brought the food, so we’re going to wait ‘til the food’s made and then bum off of them,” Avery Harrison said.

They had a plan to stay warm that seemed to work.

Meanwhile, other fans were keeping warm with extra layers and hot food.
“We made chili, chicken noodle soup, we have meat balls,” Salem fan, Trina Bateman said.

She forgot to mention her tailgate was equipped with a heater.

However, if fans didn’t make a warm dish they were sure to find one in the concession stand.

Obviously, the big seller was hot chocolate and they were prepared to serve more than a hundred gallons.

Most fans showed support by dressing up in team colors, while others undressed.

After four quarters in next to nothing a few Christiansburg fans in shorts and no shirts needed a little more than hot chocolate to warm them up.
“The team will look at us and they’ll get inspired looking at us freezing watching them,” said CHS student, Carl Leic.

When you ask Salem fans if this is the coldest games they remember, no one has forgotten last year’s district title game.

“Last year’s Pulaski game was 12 degrees, so this is much warmer compared to that game,” Bateman said.

When you’re a true fan you got to take one for the team.
