The judge in charge of Jeff Young’s Roanoke County trial ruled late this afternoon evidence of Young’s alleged Floyd crimes is inadmissible in the current trial.

Young is charged with first degree murder, second degree murder, and felony hit and run in the death of former Roanoke attorney Tom Farrell back on January 28, 2008.

Prosecutors apparently planned to produce witnesses of several incidents in Young’s hometown of Floyd County, including one that resulted in charges of running down a grocery store clerk and then beating her with a stick.

But the judge ruled they could not use any of that evidence.

Young’s Floyd County charges have yet to go to trial.

It’s unclear how this might effect Young’s defense attorney’s plans to call a former state psychiatrist whom found Young insane after interviewing him a few days after the Floyd County incident.

Prosecutors basically used a time line game plan in Tuesday’s testimony, taking jurors from police encounters with Young a few days before the Farrell hit and run, to alleged odd behavior by Young in his broken down Jeep a few hours after the crime at a Roanoke County convenience store.

Young’s mother also testified late Tuesday afternoon.

The trial is scheduled to resume Wednesday morning at 8:30.

Several Roanoke County Police officers took the stand Tuesday morning for day two of Jeffrey Young’s murder trial, in the hit and run death of Roanoke attorney Tom Farrell.

The officers testififed that they had contact with Young in the days before Farrell’s death.  The officers saw Young in his white Jeep, loitering in several areas around Roanoke County.  Some of the officers said they had to ask Young to move his Jeep because he was in a private parking lot.

Tom Farrell’s running partner also took the stand.  He told the jury that he and Tom ran the same route every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.  He added that Farrell was adamant about wearing reflective clothing.  Farrell’s running partner also identified Farrell’s running gear in court.
