VDOT takes a look at the future of route 419 through Roanoke County and Salem.
At a public workshop Tuesday night, people were asked what the land around the road should be used for as development affects traffic on 419.
People living in the area said land use should have been considered more thoroughly in the 1960s before the area was heavily developed. Drivers complained about traffic lights that are out of sync and the lack of turning lanes.
Planners will also look at adding park and ride lots for workers who carpool along the 419 corridor, to help take some cars off the road.
The ideas discussed are long range goals to be worked on over the next 25 to 30 years.
