For fans like David Moore, camping in Martinsville is almost as big of a tradition as the race itself.
“We start saving, planning, and working toward coming up here,“ Moore said.
But with the cost of gas at an all-time high, he says this year he’s lucky to be there.
“People who travel longer distances can’t afford it. They’re usually your average working people, and they will stay home to watch it on TV,“ he said.
    Bob and Valerie Baker agree.
“This place by now should be packed out, and there are plenty of spots left,“ Valerie Baker said.
“I walked around here this morning, and that’s all people were talking about - gas prices and diesel being higher than gasoline.  It’s just getting ridiculous,“ Bob Baker said.
