New information in Salem deadly hit and run investigation

We’re learning more about the deadly hit and run in Salem, that happened early on Saturday, October 11th.
A search warrant shows Zane Blankenship was walking across the parking lot of the Awful Arthur’s restaurant on West Main Street around 2:00 a.m., when police say Blakenship was hit by the Jeep officers say Shaun Scott was driving.
The warrant also says the Jeep jumped a sidewalk and curb, in order to get away from police.
Officers were able to track the Jeep because the front bumper fell off, with the license plates attached, when the Jeep hit a police cruiser.
Scott faces murder as well as hit and run charges. He turned himself into police at a hospital on Sunday, August 12th.

One more thing antsuzanne, someone who was “about to go to college” does NOT make them college educated. I just thought…Oh, and if you are going to take up for Shaun you may want to stick with the story(or lie) he is telling. He is saying he had no knowledge of Zane…never spoke, had an arguement or fight with Zane. So, I would have to say you may want to try to tell the same story as the person for whom you are trying to take up for. Its REALLLLY SAD when Shaun’s friends are saying he WAS having a fight(verbal or whatever)and Shaun himself says he didnt. Just thought I would point out that you and your buddy Shaun have different stories. If you need a bit of help check out his lawyer’s statements(under channel 10 update) and then check out yours a few days ago on this comment page…. You may want to stick with whatever he is saying or maybe….if you think about it….HE IS LIEING…unless you are… So, are you telling the truth or him???? just wondering…
well, antsuzanne, I think you meant to say you are not picking a side instead of no-one side but, anyhow….Well, I never said there was a “fight” between Zane and Shaun but, they did have words towards one another before Shaun decided to run away and jump in his jeep…..I dont think anyone who is wanting Zane’s family to have justice has thought about this clearly. It is important the truth is told. They did have words and that is why what Shaun did was 1st degree Murder. If people keep trying to say other-wise all that is doing is helping Shaun. Think about it..that gave motive for what Shaun did. If Shaun gets his way and has everyone believe neither of them were in an arguement(wich they were), that will just have the judge to believe it was an accident. IT WAS NOT!!!!I know Zane’s friends think they are defending him but, why do you think Shaun’s lawyer is trying so….hard to stress they knew nothing of each other???!!! She knows if it is proven(and IT WILL BE)they had a verbal arguement, the judge will see exactly why Shaun ran him down!! I am defending Zane. I cant wait till it all comes out and Shaun is someones girlfriend in jail…I just wish people would see that they are only hurting Zane’s chance at justice by saying they had no arguement. I know they did and so does Salem Police Detectives and several others that are witnesses so, lets just pray Justice is done for Zane and his family. Oh, and by the way, NO ONE CARES ABOUT COLBY’S CHARGES!! If Colby having charges makes Zane guilty I guess Shaun’s family is all guilty of Murder???!!!Dosent make sence does it?! That is how much sence it makes to bring up Colby and his mistakes having ANYTHING to do with Zane. IT DOSENT!!!

First of all what kind of person are you? instead of showing sorrow towards our lose you are defending Shaun. You are blaming Zane for his own death when your sorry friend killed him. How do you live with yourself. If someone killed Shaun how would you feel if we blamed shaun for his own death. Your ignorant opinion is just that your opinion but how dare you post that on a public blog where people who loves Zane are mourning his death. Your little friend is up for life plus 65 years and he will get it and u deserve to be right beside him. Atleast we know Zane is in heaven watching over us but little Shauny wont be…..
First off, that’s not the case. Zane didn’t get into his car speed through the parking lot hit Shaun, others, and a cop car. AGAIN, Shaun chose his path and he will pay for the path he chose. It was no accident. He had other choices. His choice was murder. Zane plowed himself into bushes because he didn’t want to run a 4 wheeler through a bunch of turkeys. I seriously doubt he would of taken the path to plow Shaun over. That was not his character. He would have put himself in danger before he would put anyone else in danger. He wouldn’t run someone over, run from the police after hitting them too and call it an accident. Wake up Chick! Your boy is GUILTY! If he were anything but guilty, he would have stopped. “Scared” , I agree! Scared to man up to the MURDER he commited. 8 Felony counts in one night. Nice Guy! Don’t even try to compare the two. There’s no contest. There can’t be because Zane is no longer with us thanks to scared little Shaun. Rest In Peace Zane!
1st of all I have read everyones comments, and yes it is sad of course to see that happen and rip…zane….but my facts are the truth you can beleive it or not, what if that was zane instead who ran over sean and zane is such a good person????would you beleive it was a terrible accident b/c you knew zane and knew he was a good person? of course, its taken by the sides of whose side you pick, I am not picking no-ones side but like I said what I said is the truth!and I really doubt he will get life, the most he will get is a couple years>
Coby’s record will never live up to MURDER 1! So I really wish you ignorant people would stop bringing it up! It has nothing to do with nor does it JUSTIFY Zane’s death. He was murdered. Bottom Line. All of the FACTS say so! Your friend Shaun made his choices that night, he needs to man up, and take his punishment for his choices. He chose to take the exit that would take Zane’s life. He had other choices that unfortunate evening. He chose not to take them. He chose the one that had Zane’s family, friends, coworkers, and aquaintences at his funeral today. How does that make Shaun such a great guy. Zane is saving lives in his death. Shaun just took a life. A beautiful life. We now only have his beautiful memory thanks to Shaun. Defend him if you want. But remember you didn’t have to say good-bye to Shaun today. We had to say good-bye to Zane. Think of the people hurting in this situation before you decide to post igorant comments about Zane. Have some respect. He’s dead, becasuse your friend Shaun chose to run him down instead of taking another route. If you want to speak in Shaun’s favor, how about showing some remourse for Zane’s family instead of running him and his brother into the ground. FOR ANTSUZANNE-Well, I have been reading everyones comments on this entire situation including yours and I had to just say a few things. First off I was not there but, do know a few FACTS on the situation. I chose to talk with a family member of mine who knew neither Shaun, Zane or their friends and WAS there. Since my family member did not know any of these young men there is NO REASON TO LIE!!! The family member was getting into their car parked near this jeep and might I add it is a jeep with 4 doors and FULLY ENCLOSED! so, NO-ONE could have harmed or even touched him. I had read a comment that someone made saying he(Shaun)may have been speeding b/c someone wanted to grab him out of his open jeep or something. NOT POSSIBLE!! no one was after him or wanting to harm him!! OH, or BANK him!!!! REDICULOUS how the ones of you saying these crazy thing actually believe them. I can NOT BELIEVE anyone(even this guy Shaun) could sleep at night saying it was an accident! It was FAR from an accident. The person in my family who witnessed this horrible crime was NOT DRINKING like your FRIEND(antsuzanne) who says they seen things that DID NOT HAPPEN! Listen to the news or do your homework!! The fight inside the bar was between neither Shaun or Zane. Outside they had a few words but, nothing big and Shaun ran away to his jeep where everyone thought he was just going to leave. This guy Shaun WENT at a speed of 40mph or so…IN A PARKING LOT!!!! FOR GOODNESS SAKE…does that sound like an ACCIDENT??!!! He even drove away from his parking space to get further away and build up SPEED!!! Does that sound like an accident?? Oh, and he was near several other exits and turned around in order to go back and purposely hit Zane and try to hit a few others while at it!! I know myself that I have stopped after running over a small animal. This guy did NOT STOP after he hit& KILLED a young man!!! I do not care what happened leading up to this point but, the fact HE DID NOT STOP, LOST HIS BUMPER, DROVE OVER THE CURB AND DITCHED HIS CAR, after killing a man GOING 40mph IN A FREAKIN PARKING LOT….PROVES HIS GUILT!!! He then ran from police…I guess he was scared of them too!! Oh, and I forgot to mention the fact that this guy was DRUNK DRIVING!! I guess no-one will ever know HOW drunk because he camped out somewhere till it was out of his system. OH, and as far as Zane being a trouble maker…NOT AT ALL!!!!maybe you should check out what people who did know him say about him(not his brother). His brother is not the one who was killed so, why in the world would his brother having a gun charge have ANYTHING to do with this. Im sure we all have people in our family that arent perfect! That is like saying anyone related to this guy Shaun is a criminal or trouble maker….its the same. Shaun committed MURDER so, anyone related to him have just as much control over what he did as Zane of his brothers actions. Zane was a good man. Zane did NOT get in trouble and whatever his brothers did (and I am SURE none of his brothers have commited MURDER) he had no control over!! but, even if he was a troubled person(which he WAS NOT)how does that give anyone the right to take his life?? I just dont understand those of you who think anyone should die for ANY REASON in the manner this young man did. It is sad anyone could find a reason that would make what Shaun did make since. I would have to say you just dont wanna believe Shaun committed this horrible crime. Well, he DID!! Please, if you know a good reason he would drive off after running over a man, LET ME KNOW!!! I dont think his brother having a record or anything you can come up with(starting trouble, fighting, or whatever) is good enough! Oh, and by the way…Zane also saved several peoples life by being an organ donar(HE HAD NO DRUGS WHAT-SO-EVER IN HIS SYSTEM)...JUST SO YOU KNOW, in order to donate an organ they check that out. People who are getting those organs have contacted Zane’s family to let them know because of Zane they will continue to live. Like I said, I did not know Zane but, have taken the time to learn about him and the horrible way he died. I feel I should say something since he is not on this earth to do it himself. I just thought you should know a few facts about the VICTIM..Zane. Unless you were there and seen him starting trouble(which I am sure you did NOT because it DID NOT HAPPEN)you should do a little work to find out some facts and then make a decision!! I just hope you can learn a little from the information I have given you. Like I said, I was not there but, did not make a decision based on rumors and lies. I found out the FACTS!!! I just dont think anyone could see this as anything other than what it was….cold blooded MURDER!!! and for anyone who thinks different, starts rumors, or tells lies about Zane…..WELL, I am sure you know where I think you can go…........
Ok tell me this then why did his lawyer say on all the news stations that ZANE had no role in the fight at all AND im not hearing a reason why he swerved to hit Zane and ran over the curb and hit the cop car and still ran I dont want to hear he was scared and wasnt thinking he ran and hid because he knew what he did was wrong I dont want to hear it was an accident
actually a friend of mine was there that night and he seen the whole thing….and he told me that zane and his brother started a fight in the bar with sean…and it led outside…and actually the cop pulled up right when sean pulled out and hit him, the cop wasnt there when the fight 1st started, so he cant know exactly how it started and who started it, and it was prob over drugs why they were fighting and they make it out like zane was so perfect, and plus sean didnt have no violent crimes ever listed on his records, like zanes brother does with the gun charges, so what does that tell you if they have a gun charge that they are perfect and not violent and they didnt start the fight????no!!! I dont think so!!!
What does him going to college have to do with anything you think noone who was going to college ever killed someone the cop saw the whole thing and he said the car sped up and swerved to hit Zane that doesnt sound like he was trying to get him to move that means that Sean moved to hit him just because he is your friend dont be blind to your friendship you are not even considering idea that he did it even with cops statement
