Police:  It’s “possible” Roanoke, Salem wallet thefts are related

Police say it’s a possibility several wallet thefts inside Krogers in Salem and Roanoke are related.

The thief, or thieves, seem to be targeting seniors, so far all women, according to releases about the thefts sent out by the Roanoke and Salem police departments.

The thief starts casual conversation, then takes the wallets from inside women’s purses.

So far all the thefts have taken place inside a grocery store.  Those reported were at the Kroger at the Spartan Square in Salem and the Kroger at the Towers shopping center in Roanoke.

Police say some victims are waiting a few hours to report the thefts, which makes the thief’s trail tougher to follow.

Roanoke and Salem police admit they’ve increased patrols at both shopping centers, but declined to say at what times.

If you can help catch the thief, call Roanoke Valley Crimeline at (540) 344-8500.
