President not praying in public, drawing criticism

President Obama’s decision not to hold a public event on the National Day of Prayer is drawing criticism.

Mr. Obama signed a proclamation to mark the day and said he was going to pray in private, as he says he does everyday.

Liberty Counsel founder Mathew Staver says during this trying time in our nation’s history, Mr. Obama has missed an opportunity to unite people of all faiths.

“Most people would like to see the President set the example in everything, including the National Day of Prayer.“, says Staver.  “We have a long, rich, tradition of faith and the National Day of Prayer is that day to bring people of different faiths, Jews and Christians and Muslims together to pray in the White House and acknowledge it in some public way.“

The first family attended an Episcopal church in Washington on Easter but has yet to decide on a permanent place of worship.
