Roanoke area FBI helps Fort Hood investigationWSLS has learned that Roanoke’s local FBI office is still playing a role in the Major Nidal Hasan investigation.
Hasan’s ties to our area include living in Roanoke and Vinton, graduating from William Fleming High School, Virginia Western Community College, and Virginia Tech.
He still has relatives in this area, which is why Roanoke FBI agents joined the investigation on November 6th, the day after the shootings.
That has been the agents’ primary function in relation to the case. They’re mainly interviewing friends and family, still in this area.
We know from talking to a Hasan family member, that the FBI asked questions including:
—Are you related to Major Nidal Hasan?
—When was the last time you saw or heard from him?
—Do you remember him acting strange before the shootings?
We’re told most of the interviews with the family took place face-to-face.
Hasan’s family here in the Roanoke Valley has said all along that they never saw any of this coming. The last time they can really remember talking to him was over the Summer.
Hasan called saying he was passing through Roanoke, wanting to see if anyone wanted to have dinner.
A lot of the family was out of town at that time, so they never saw Hasan when and if he drove through the Roanoke Valley.
The family has declined any further comment on the investigation.
