At 5:30 p.m. on Friday, a health department spokesman said they were pleased to announce that all 10 vendors’ licenses were re-instated. In two weeks, there will be another inspection, then once a month for six months.

On Friday, crews were unloading new chairs to bring into the building, what Melinda Mayo, city spokeswoman, said was part of the cosmetic enhancements.

Mayo also said they are taking other measures to make sure the vendors are in compliance with the health regulations.  She said Terminix worked closely with the city to set 250 traps a day.  Terminix, she said, will also continue to make weekly inspections.

The city will pro-rate the vendors for the lost business during the two weeks the market building was closed. They will also have additional time to pay their rent.

The Roanoke City Market Building will be re-opening Saturday morning.

The Virginia Department of Health re-inspected the building Friday.

All of the vendors passed the inspection, so they were re-issued licenses.

After the successful inspection, the city decided to re-open the building Saturday at 8:00 a.m.
