Roanoke County breaks ground for a new library.  A ceremony was held Tuesday morning at the site on Merriman Road across from Penn Forest Elementary School.

The new South County Library is the first new full-service library to be built in Roanoke County in more than 30 years.  It will replace the Headquarters Library on 419, which was built more than 40 years ago.

Planning for the $9 million project began in 2005.  The library is expected to open by June 2011.

We are so lucky to have so much money available for our building such a fantastic memorial.  I find it quite interesting that everywhere you visit in the County owned buildings there are conference rooms and have you ever wondered how many hours they are used.  We recently paid over $100,000 for the Board to have a first class conference room and just like today they used it for about 30 minutes.  Worst of all is the quality of the audio system.  Have you tried to listen to their pontifications?  Oh, that’s right you can’t hear them.  Maybe they can spend more of our dollars to fix it or just yell.
