Sabrina’s Place gets a new home
A Roanoke group that works to make sure families have a safe place for children to have supervised visits and exchanges with parents who have been abusive in the past is getting settled into its new location. Sabrina’s Place recently moved into a house in downtown Roanoke.
It has more safety features than the other location. There is a new security system that monitors what is going on outside. Panic buttons just in case a parent feels threatened during the visit. The meeting rooms look more like living rooms than the old location.
Program Coordinator, Sammi Rader says,“It’s a house it is less institutionalized than the building we were in previously - and it’s a home and we try to make it more comfortable for them by the way we set up the rooms allowing it to look like a family room.“
Sabrina’s Place was named after Sabrina Reed who was shot and killed by her estranged husband when he came to pick up their child at her mother’s home.
