Salem church denied rezone request

A local church’s plea to the City of Salem to have a property on Russell Drive is denied.

The Planning Commission voted unanimously Wednesday night 5-0 against recommending re-zoning the area to city council.

Approval would have allowed Community Church the right to own the property it’s now renting.

Right now, Russell Drive is in a commerce district meaning religious assembly is not allowed.

The recommendation will now go to Salem City Council for a final decision in January.
