Salem Police say thieves targeting elderly women

Salem Police are trying to find who is stealing wallets from elderly women at a Kroger.

Officers say three elderly women have told them that they had their wallets stolen at the Kroger in Spartan Square during the past two-and-a-half weeks.

In each case, the women told police that a man approached them, then distracted them while they were shopping inside.  The women then noticed that their wallets were mising shortly after.

Police tell us the thefts happened on:

  • Tuesday, July 21, 2009 between 11:30 a.m. - 12:45 p.m.
  • Tuesday, August 4, 2009 between 2:30 p.m. - 3:45 p.m.
  • Thursday, Aug 6, 2009 between 11:30 a.m. - 12:45 p.m.
