River Laker says he does recycle and hates it when people throw cigarette “stubs” out of their car window… but insists he’s no “greenie”. Regardless, the Old Southwest resident decided to sell his car last month and take anadventure, of sorts: Six months with no car.
“It’s been easier and more fun than expected” said Laker at his home on Monday. “I don’t have to renew my gym membership!“
The rules are simple: Laker can’t drive a car and if he needs a ride, he has to make his way to that person’s house using foot or pedal power.
The whole idea began as a session of thinking-out-loud that turned into a challenge by the local ride sharing group Ride Solutions. That chalolenge is now a full blown social experiment that Laker is blogging about daily. You can see how the experiment fares by following a daily blog at http://carlessbrit.tumblr.com/.
