Student investigated for spiking drink

While investigators believe it was most like a high school prank, Rockbridge County sheriff Bob Day confirms a student at the county’s high school is under investigation for spiking another student’s drink.

Day called the investigation a “serious” matter.

Investigators say sometime Wednesday at Rockbridge County High School,  a student sprayed household cleaner, possibly bleach, into another student’s drink.

Day said the student took a sip, thought it tasted bad, and poured it out.

Investigators said the alleged victim did not report the incident.

An eyewitness spoke up instead, according to investigators.

Rockbridge County sheriff’s department sergeant, and school resource officer, Mike Cash is investigating the case.

Cash declined to give specifics on the investigation during an on-camera interview Thursday.

Cash said he would complete his investigation and turn his findings over to the Rockbridge County commonwealth’s attorney’s office, which would ultimately make the decision whether to prosecute.

Cash said the incident is a good example of how when a student sees or hears something suspicious, it’s always better to tell a teacher, principal, or school resource officer first hand.
