VMI cadet dies after training event

A VMI cadet collapsed in his barracks after finishing a 10-mile march today.
John Evans of Maryland was pronounced dead shortly after noon today at Carilion Stonewall Jackson Hospital.
The cause of death is unknown at this time.

LEXINGTON, Va., Nov. 7, 2009 A 4th Class cadet (freshman) collapsed following a training event and was pronounced dead shortly after noon today at Carilion Stonewall Jackson Hospital.
John Alexander Evans, 19, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Evans, of Highland, Md., collapsed in his Barracks room after completing a 10-mile road march with other members of the Rat Class. Cadet Evans was an International Studies major and a member of the Marine ROTC program.
The cause of death will be determined by a medical examiner.
