Yokohama “planting roots” in Salem
We’re bringing you stories about things that make “Your Town” a great place to live.
This week we’re in Salem, where a local company is literally planting roots in the community.
This past Spring, Yokohama planted the first trees for the “Forever Forest” project.
Workers and their families, school children and Boy Scouts planted 2,000 trees in front of the plant.
There are small and large trees. They are all native to our part of Virginia, to mimic our natural forests.
The trees will absorb carbon dioxide from the tire manufacturer.
“It’s corporate social responsibility. We’re not just over here making tires in Salem and we want everyone to understand that we have this social responsibility and we want to be involved with the community.“, says Neil
There are another 2,000 saplings inside a greenhouse. They will be planted on the other side of the plant next Spring.
