Campbell County puts leaf burning ban into effect

» 0 Comments | Post a Comment

Due to unusually wet weather conditions, it has been determined that a Leaf Burning Ban will go into effect, beginning Friday, November 20, 2009 for the area west of the railroad tracks located west of Lawyers Road and north of Goggins Road and Buffalo Creek (including the Crest Haven Estates and Wildwood Subdivisions) until further notice.

Recent rainfall has created a situation where leaves have fallen quickly and are unable to dry sufficiently; these conditions produce excessive amounts of smoke when burned. This burning of wet/damp leaves causes a smoldering effect, which combined with the humidity, produces a cloud of dense smoke that lingers for several hours. Citizens who live in the previously noted areas may be especially sensitive to this heavy smoke as these regions are more densely populated and burning is the predominant method of leaf disposal.

It is anticipated this ban will remain in effect until weather conditions become more favorable.
