Home broken into, set on fire in Amherst Co.

A house was burglarized and set on fire in Amherst County this week, and a $1,000 reward is being offered for information, the county sheriff’s office said Friday.
A couple returned to their home in the 900 block of Perkins Mill Road, near the Nelson County line, and found it on fire about 10 p.m. Wednesday, according to a news release.
Extensive damage was done to the home. The front door had been forced open, and a handgun and jewelry were stolen.
A flammable liquid had been poured along the rear of the residence and ignited, the sheriff’s office said.
