Hundreds attend Sipes family funerals

  Between 200 to 300 people attended the funerals of Dwayne “Shannon” Sipe, his wife Lauralee Sipe, and the couple’s four-year-old son Joshua.

  Investigators in Appomattox County believe Lauralee’s brother, Chris Speight, shot and killed the family along with five others last week.

  According to those who saw the funeral, after a short song, several friends and family talked about their memories of the family.

  Shannon Sipe was said to have a warm sense of humor and once jokingly remarked he didn’t want anyone wearing black to his funeral.

  Lauralee Sipe’s daughter from a previous relationship, Morgan Dobyns, also died in the tragedy.

  The family moved from Marietta, Georgia to Appomattox County last year, according to our media partner, The Lynchburg News & Advance.

  The News & Advance reported last week the Sipes were busy remodeling the family home once left to Speight by his mother.
