The president of the suspended Liberty University College Democrats club has resigned, and will be transferring from Liberty, he announced in a news release Friday night.
Brian Diaz cited the administration’s dealings with him personally, as well as its decision to remove Maria Childress as the club’s sponsor, as factors in his decision.
Diaz said in the release that his decision to transfer comes from his desire to be part of “an institution that fosters diversity within its student body.”
Diaz listed, among institutions to which he plans to apply, Randolph College and Virginia Commonwealth University, as well as other Virginia schools.
“I wish all the best to the Liberty University College Democrats, and I hope that this situation will not hinder anyone but will encourage political involvement, and standing up to what youth believe in,” Diaz wrote, in closing.

I hope that Diaz knows that Randolph College is an institution that wholeheartedly welcomes diversity in all its forms. We have active clubs for both democrats and republicans. One of our students who graduated this year was highly involved in the Obama campaign in Lynchburg this past fall. Randolph is also academically robust! Look into it!
