APPOMATTOX — A Rustburg man pleaded guilty Wednesday to raping a 12-year-old Appomattox girl in early 2008.
Niles Lee Anthony Jr., 19, also pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual battery during a hearing in Appomattox Circuit Court.
Commonwealth’s Attorney Darrel Puckett told the court a guidance counselor at Appomattox Middle School contacted the sheriff’s office in April 2008.
“A female student stated she had been raped and thought she was pregnant,” Puckett said.
The girl, who was 13 by the time she reported the incident, was raped between Jan. 19 and Feb. 29, 2008, he said.
After she delivered the child in October 2008, a Department of Social Services paternity test showed with greater than 99 percent probability that Anthony was the father, he said.
Anthony was in the U.S. Army at the time and has since been discharged, Puckett said after the hearing.
He is also charged with misdemeanor domestic assault in Lynchburg, where he was being held in the city’s adult detention center Wednesday.
