Traffic patterns changing on Rt. 29 business in Lynchburg

Drivers should be alert to a change in traffic patterns on U.S. 29 Business over the Carter Glass Bridge.

Works are painting the bridge following last year’s deck rehabilitation work.

Southbound traffic was restricted to the inside passing lane for a period, but on Monday night it shifted back to the outside lane. The Virginia Department of Transportation said signs and other traffic-control measures will be in place to alert drivers to the change.

The Carter Glass Bridge re-painting project has a budget of $1.2 million. Work began in May and is scheduled to end in September, according to VDOT.

The bridge will be subject to changing lane closures during that period. Drivers should stay alert and exercise caution.
