What started as a joy ride on a Montgomery County school bus ended with two Virginia Tech students behind bars.

“It’s rare that you actually catch someone in the act like that,“ said Sgt. Nathan O’Dell with the Blacksburg Police Department.

Investigators say Alexander Telkowski and Aleksander Andreyev’s night began with them tearing down and stealing a metal sign from Blacksburg Christian Church.

Police say they then went across the street to Gilbert Linkous Elementary School where they stole a school bus.

Investigators say they drove to Virginia Tech’s campus and then back to the elementary school.

“If they were pulled over driving, they could have very well been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol,“ said O’Dell.

Their luck ran out when they returned the bus.

A patrol officer noticed the bus lights were on, which was odd considering it was 4 a.m. “I would say alcohol probably had a large part in them taking the bus.“

The students are charged with felony destruction of property, grand larceny of a church sign, trespassing and public intoxication.

Both students were released on a $5,000 bond.

They’re scheduled to be in court later this month.

A joy ride gone too far.

Blacksburg Police say they arrested two Virginia Tech students early Friday morning, in connection with a stolen Montgomery County Schools’ bus.

Investigators tell us the theft happened around 4:40 a.m., when Blacksburg Police saw two people near a school bus that was parked at Gilbert Linkous Elementary School on Tom’s Creek Road.

When the officers went to investigate why the young men were on school property, they discovered that the duo had driven the bus from the school, to the Virginia Tech campus, then returned the bus to the school. However, the bus had heavy damage following the illegal joy ride.

Officers charged 19-year-old Alexander Telkowski and 20-year-old Aleksander Andreyev with:

  • Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle
  • Felony destruction of property
  • Grand larceny of a church sign
  • Trespassing upon school property
  • Underage possession of alcohol
  • Public intoxication

What a shame

HH:  Nope.  My kids are honor students with a great group of close friends.  Do volunteer work for the community.  Are not bigoted and have both worked since they were 14 years old.  Perfect they are not, but they respect what other people have to work for because they have had to work for what they have.  I have worked three jobs at times and graduated college since my husband died.  Those are the values I am teaching my children.  So sorry that kind of thing bothers you so much.

My, my.  Aren’t you truly ignorant.  Their father died when they were very small children.  Sorry I don’t fit your stereotype.

HH:  I am judgmental because I am a single mother raising two children and paying taxes to pay for that property that those two idiots damaged.  You come back with a so-called lesson that they shouldn’t have returned the property, then they wouldn’t have been caught.  Yup, that is the kind of attitude I just love seeing young people develop instead of having consequences for their actions.

HH:  Then why would you take such a cavalier attitude towards grown adults thinking they can entertain themselves by stealing and damaging what does not belong to them?  Seems to me your parents raised you with little respect for others and some warped values.

Let’s see if you would think it was so amusing if they came by and stole your car, etc.  Your ignorance is pathetic.

Not at all amusing.  I suggest:
- complete reimbursement for all damages to be earned by each delinquent—not paid for by their mother and/or father.
- 30 days jail time.  Probation is a joke.
- Expulsion from VT.  Plenty of people would love to attend VT for an education.  We don’t need more jacka$$es like these two.
- Would love to hear how proud their parents are of them!
