In a crowded, ten candidate field, three women and a man won election to Blacksburg Town Council Tuesday night.

Here are the unofficial totals from the Montgomery County Registrar’s office of the vote totals for the four winners:

Susan Anderson - 3,164

Krisha Chachra - 3,043

Cecile Newcomb - 2,542

John Bush - 2,511

Blacksburg made history in voting for their town council members in November, rather than earlier in the year in May.

Ten names were on the ballot for town council seats while the mayor, Ron Rordam, ran unopposed.

Some candidates met downtown at different watch parties at The Cellar Restaurant and Gillie’s Restaurant.  We were there as the results came in.

“One of the things I think is important is the attraction and retention of young adults. That’s been a passion of mine,” said Chachra.

We caught up with John Bush, who told us, “I want to make sure that we do the right kind of retail development that makes sense for the town. I want to make sure there’s affordable housing for people who want to live here and stay here.“

Cecile Newcomb added, “Sustainability is always at the top, and planning, manage growth.“

Susan Anderson wants, “More downtown revitalization. We’re doing great on that. We need to do more.“

Anderson was the only incumbent running for the council seats.
