Floyd County is getting back to normal this week, which is a big change from the dozens of police officers people like Delores Hammett are used to seeing on the street.

“In Blue Ridge Restaurant the other day there was about 30 state policemen in their having their lunch. It’s very unusual to see that many.  We usually have one state policeman in town.“

All the law enforcement officers have left town.  It’s a sign for people who live in Floyd County that Steven Branscome has been caught.

“I’m very relieved,“ says resident Sharon Everette.  I’m glad it’s over and I know other people are glad it’s over.“

State Trooper Richard Hughes, who Branscome allegedly shot, says he’s glad the suspect is behind bars, and looks forward to putting this incident behind him and concentrating on work.

“He’s not going to have the potential to hurt anybody else or any other law enforcement or innocent civilians.“
