Wythe County Chief Deputy Keith Dunagan is revealing more about where Douglas Jaccard hid out, and why he went back to his home on Thursday night, where officers caught him.

Deputy Dunagan tells us Jaccard hid out in what he describes as a “sheltered location” in Wythe County.  Officers say Jaccard was found hiding under a table in his home Thursday night.  Investigators believe Jaccard went back to get food and medicine.  Dunagan says Jaccard was not armed when officers found him.

Dunagan says investigators always had a strong belief that Jaccard would return to his house, and had officers patrolling the area since Tuesday.

Investigators from the Wythe County Sheriff’s Office and State Police questioned Jaccard from 9:00 p.m. Thursday night through 2:00 a.m. Friday.  Dunagan tells us Jaccard is being cooperative.

State Police will now take over the investigation because it involves an officer involved shooting, and arson.  Dunagan believes Jaccard planned the shootings, but is not sure about the arson.

Jaccard has a video arraignment at 11:00 a.m. from the New River Valley Regional Jail.

Dunagan says it feels great to have captured Jaccard.  Dunagan also believes that the neighborhood on Dyer Road will be a “brand new place” because Jaccard has been a “thorn in the side” for the people who live there.

Jail superintendent Gerald McPeak tells 10 On Your Side Jaccard was sent to the medical unit as a precautionary measure since he’d spent the last three days on the run in the woods. He was under observation all night and staff members say he appears to be in good health.

McPeak says Jaccard will have a video arraignment from the jail at 11:00 a.m. this morning.
