Court papers filed in Grayson County reveal what investigators found in the North Carolina in a home of Frederick Hammer, the man accused of killing three people.
In Hammer’s home, investigators found an empty box to a Crossman scope, his stepson told deputies it belonged to a .22 caliber Magnum rifle which was missing.  A .25 caliber Beretta automatic pistol was also missing from Hammer’s collection. Investigators say the ammo used for both guns match casings found a the murder scene and broken pieces of a scope were found next to one of the bodies.
In Hammer’s truck, they found a box of ammo with 11 rounds missing along with a .38 caliber shell which matches one of the victims’ wounds from a bigger bullet.
Tire impressions taken from the murder scene also match those of Hammer’s truck and witnesses say they saw him driving to the tree farm and leaving at a high rate of speed around noon the day of the murders.
According to one of the victims’ secretaries, Hammer stopped by the office two days earlier asking for Ronald Hudler, because Hammer said he owed Mr. Hudler money.
Court records also reveal Hammer has a criminal past which includes murder. Prosecutors in Philadelphia and sheriff of Ashe County North Carolina confirm, Hammer is a person of interest in two separate homicides.
In Philadelphia, Hammer was convicted of killing Officer Charles Uffleman close to thirty years ago while he was off duty. Six years later, after a judge ordered a retrial, Hammer was acquitted.
In Ashe County, Sheriff James Williams says Hammer is a suspect in what they believe is a murder of missing man Jimmy Blevins.
Blevins has been missing since February 2007.
James says Hammer was “The last one to be seen with him, they were friends, he worked for Freddy P. some and he was the last one to be seen with him on the evening of the 24th.”
Sheriff James say they plan to interview Hammer once investigators in Grayson county have a solid case in place.
Hammer is being held at the New River Valley regional jail without bond.
