Man pleads guilty to crack cocaine charge

A North Carolina man admits to possessing and preparing to sell cocaine, after he was caught in Wythe County.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says a State Police trooper pulled over a car on Interstate 81 in Wythe Co. back on October 29, 2007.  During the traffic stop, the trooper saw Jeffrey Johnson sitting in the back seat of the car.

The trooper says he saw Johnson holding a bag that contained a “white substance,“ and saw Johnson try to put the bag in his pants.

Investigators found the bag contained 44.5 grams of crack cocaine.

Johnson pleaded guilty to possession with the intent to distribute more than five grams of crack cocaine, in Roanoke federal court today (Wednesday, August 20th).

Johnson faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison, and a maximum of 40 years in prison.
