The town of Rich Creek hires a new police officer who will eventually transition into the town’s newest police chief.

This comes about four months after Skip Vaughn was fired.

Vaughn had worked for the department for a little over a year before his was terminated for employee insurbordination.

John Kelly joined the police department on September 12.

He’s worked with agencies in Pearisburg, Narrows and the County, but is now getting the training he needs to head a police department.

Right now, Ron Worrell is the town’s interim chief.

Kelly is expected to take over the job permanently after he completes training.
