The New River Valley crash investigation team learned new skills today to help them investigate accidents.

They watched as cars were slammed into each other by driving experts, then put the pieces back together.

The training took place on Virginia Tech’s campus.

Accident Analysis and Reconstruction out of Maryland teaches the two week course.

Police learn how to calculate the speed of a car before and during a crash.

They also learn how to prepare a case for prosecution.

“If we have to go to court and testify we want to make sure that information is accurate,“ said Sgt. Mark Hollandsworth with Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office

Police from Montgomery County, Virginia Tech and Radford City participated in the training.

It wraps up tomorrow with a final exam.
