Firefighters in Giles County spent most of the day battling a house fire in Pembroke.

It happened at 402 Second Street.

We’re told an elderly woman living at the house was taken to the hospital, as well as another person.

Neighbors say they heard a loud explosion before the fire.

“I don’t know if it was a propane heater that might have caused it or what, but when I pulled up the siding was buckling away and blowing away from the house and the flames were shooting out the roof and side of the house,“ said Pembroke Police Chief Doug Sadler, who was the first official on the scene.

It’s unclear how badly the two women were hurt.

Fire crews also aren’t sure what caused the explosion neighbors reported hearing.

Fire Chief Brian Gillispie says the fire probably caused more than $100,000 in damages and believes the house is a total loss.
