WSLS 10 On Your Side’s Angela Hatcher has talked to Wythe Co. Sheriff Doug King who says Doug Jaccard was caught inside his own home on Dyer Rd.
Sheriff King says the last track they had on Jaccard lead them to believe he could be headed back home, so he placed more officers in that area.
He says, Jaccard may have been going home to get medication.

The helicopter, provided by Virginia State Police, is the biggest asset in the search for accused killer Douglas Jaccard, but the weather is putting a damper on how often it’s used.

“The weather has grounded one helicopter that we’ve requested from Richmond and it’s hindered us in the last two days,“ said Wythe County Sheriff Doug King.

And that’s bad news since the chopper gets a bird’s eye view…something swat teams, patrols and investigators can’t. “The area is so heavily wooded,“ said King. “they (helicopter pilots) can see into areas where someone on the ground low cannot see.“

Police say the rain is also hindering the scent dogs’ abilities to track Jaccard. “We’ve run a number of tracks that have basically just ended.“

Until mother nature cooperates, swat teams will continue to search on foot, deputies in cars and state police will stake out Jaccard’s house just in case he returns.

Sheriff King says they have narrowed the search and he thinks Jaccard is still in his neck of the woods. “Right now I have a good feeling that we will find him.“

Sheriff King says they’re focusing the search in the Hiwasse area of Pulaski County because Jaccard hunts there, knows the area well and used to be an employee at a boy scout campground in that area.

It’s day three in the search for accused killer and convicted felon Douglas Jaccard.

The massive manhunt started on Tuesday after police say Jaccard shot and killed his neighbor and hurt two others.

Today, swat teams searched the Hiwasse area of Pulaski County where there is a boy scout campground.

State police also patrolled the suspects house just in case he returns.

“It wouldn’t surprise me that when he feels completely safe that he would return,“ said Wythe County Sheriff Doug King. But, we plan to make sure he’s in custody before he feels completely safe.“

Without going into detail, Sheriff King tells WSLS investigators have found numerous items belonging to Jaccard around his house that are related to the investigation.

Wythe County Sheriff Doug King says the weather is causing problems for the search.

He says there’s a helicopter in Richmond they had hoped to use, but it’s grounded because of the weather.

This is the third day in searching for Douglas Jaccard and Sheriff King admits it is a little frustrating that investigators, swat teams and patrols have not been able to locate him.

State police was staked out at Jaccard’s house earlier today. Sheriff King says they’re keeping an eye on the place, just in case Jaccard shows up.

King says he’s confident Jaccard is still in the area they’re searching because he knows it too well.

Wythe County Sheriff Doug King tells me that deputies, officers, and SWAT team members are searching the Hiwasse area of Pulaski County for Douglas Jaccard.  There is a boy scout campground in the area.

Sheriff King adds that there have not been any sightings of Jaccard, since the shootings on Tuesday.

Investigators say they found numerous items belonging to Jaccard around his house.  Deputies believe the items are related to their investigation.

King says people in the community have been calling in tips, but none have worked out so far.  King does not believe that people in the area are helping Jaccard hide from them.

As for the search team, King says there are about 200 people working on the case at any given time.  Investigators plan to use a State Police helicopter to help them search until the weather forces them to ground it.

I went this evening and started the bank account for the Bane family. This way if there are people out there that would rather donate money then they can do that through me or the Suntrust Bank. If they want to do it through me they can either mail a check or money order to my address or they can call my home number, this information will be given by email at candise.hinkley@gmail.com. Or if they go through the bank, they can call any Suntrust bank and ask for the account in the following name:

Candise Hinkley
The Bane Family
So please feel free to let anyone and everyone know! I will be contacting news crews to have this published. Thanks again for everyone’s thoughts and prayers and all the wonderful help!

You’ve got to be kidding me, gil - “the police didn’t do a good enough job to get the guy” while he was shooting at them?  One of them took a bullet, for goodness sakes!  It drives me crazy that people sit back in their recliners and just the police’s actions when they haven’t had any police training and have never been fired upon before.  I’m sorry but if I was being shot at, my first priority would be to take cover and make sure I didn’t leave that scene in a body bag.  Those guys have been standing out in the cold rain and walking through soggy woods for days now on high alert wondering if the next turn will reveal a psycho with a gun waiting on them.  I don’t think any of them deserve any criticism whatsoever!
