The youth vote is one of the things some believe made it possible for Barack Obama to win this election.
Young voters turned out in record numbers at the polls specifically at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Blacksburg.
At St. Michael’s, Obama pulled in 2,130 votes compared to McCain’s 1,632.
As far as Montgomery County as a whole, Obama received nearly 52% of the votes.
Young Democrats at Virginia Tech say they’re happy all their campaigning and hard work for Obama paid off.
They say aside from Obama’s policies, he appeals to young voters.
“We saw in him our best qualities as americans,“ said Virginia Tech Young Democrats President Dan Geroe.
Chris Cox, who is a member of Students for Barack Obama at Virginia Tech, agreed. “People made fun of the Obama campaign for spending money on us… I just feel extremely vindicated.“
According to the Associated Press, about two-thirds of voters under 30 supported Obama.
