BLACKSBURG - The public now has access to an archive of thousands of documents related to the April 16th, 2007 shootings at Virginia Tech.

The university set up the archive as part of a court settlement with victims’ families to avoid lawsuits.

They’ve had access to the documents since mid-December, but they had private codes to prevent others from seeing the archives.

Now, two computer terminals are set-up at Virginia Tech and in Richmond for anyone to view.

Student Jessica Beasley says she agrees with the university’s decision to open to the documents to everyone.

“Looking over all the information is going to be painful because it was a tragedy, but at the same time you’re going to get to see the information as a whole…the good and the bad. So…I think it’ll also bring closure to people.“

Virginia Tech Spokesman Mark Owczarski says the state library had some technical glitches with the archive system this morning, but everything has been repaired.
