Hospitals Treating Tech Shooting Victims

Montgomery Regional Hospital, a 146-bed facility in Blacksburg, has received 17 patients with gunshot and other wounds. Four of those are currently in surgery. In addition to those 17 patients all students the hospital transferred earlier today five patients to Lewis-Gale Medical Center, four to Carilion New River Valley Medical Center in Christians in Radford and two to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Lewis-Gale Medical Center, a 521-bed facility in Salem, has received five patients (four students and one faculty member.) All five are in stable condition, but two are now in surgery.

According to Montgomery Regional's CEO Scott Hill and Lewis-Gale's CEO James Thweatt, both hospitals put in place disaster plans to mobilize their clinical, support and medical staff resources to deal with the influx of patients.

Both Montgomery and Lewis-Gale are fully cooperating with local authorities to provide information as it becomes available and are working with family members on site.
