Narrows says goodbye to shooting victim

Narrows is a small town with a big broken heart. One of its favorite sons, 22-year-old Jarrett Lane was shot and killed at Virginia Tech on Monday.

Narrows loved Jarrett and Jarrett's mother Tracey says he loved his hometown.

"He had great fun being a part of this town," Tracey said.

On Saturday, Narrows turned out to say goodbye to Jarrett. Hundreds and hundreds of his friends poured into the town's high school for his funeral. It was the perfect place to pay their respects, because Narrows High School is where Jarrett was most respected.

He was a standout in the classroom, on the tennis court, the track and especially on the football field.

"He was his happiest on the field with his friends, his classmates, his football buddies, doing what he loved," Tracey said

On Saturday, Jarrett's football buddies carried their high school letterman jackets into his funeral. Members of his graduating class wore special t-shirts in his honor.

Jarrett may have traded in his Narrows High School green and yellow for some Hokie maroon and orange, but he was and still is the pride of his hometown.
