The Danville Fire Department is investigating a suspicious fire that ignited early Tuesday morning at a house on Worsham Street.

At about 2:05 a.m., firefighters arrived at the house and found the back of the medium-sized house in flames, Assistant Fire Chief R.K. Harvey said in a news release.

“It’s suspicious in nature,” Assistant Fire Marshal Richie Guill said Tuesday.

Crews got the fire under control in about two and a half hours, according to the release. There was a possibility that a woman was inside the home, but the house was empty and nobody was hurt, Guill said.

The Danville Sheriff’s Office and the homeowner had evicted renters from the house on Monday. Lt. Col. R.C. Ball with the sheriff’s office said Tuesday it was a standard eviction.
