A Henry County middle school has received national recognition.

According to a news release from the National Association of Secondary School Principals and MetLife Foundation, Fieldale-Collinsville Middle School has been named one of five “breakthrough schools.“

The program “recognizes middle level and high schools that are high achieving or are dramatically improving student achievement and serve large numbers of students living in poverty,“ according to the news release.

The groups honored Fieldale-Collinsville Middle School for overcoming the difficulties from Henry County’s school consolidation six years ago, and the closing of numerous manufacturing facilities.  The groups cited the school’s “continuously improving student achievement and the reduction of gaps between groups of students.“

The school will be honored at the 2010 NASSP convention in Phoenix next March.
