Man killed in industrial accident in Martinsville

    We now know how the man killed earlier today in an industrial accident died.  According to a Martinsville city spokesman, Scott Coleman, the victim was working in the warehouse with at least one other person.  They were removing a large commercial-grade air conditioning unit from the roof of the building.  The unit shifted toward the victim, pinning his body between the unit and a wall.  The victim suffered massive trauma to the head and upper chest.  Crews pronounced him dead on the scene.  A crane truck had to be used to get the AC unit off the victim.
    Martinsville police will assist OSHA in determining what caused the accident.
    The warehouse is owned by Lester Group of Martinsville.  The workers, however, are private subcontractor from the Danville area.
    The victim’s name is not being released until his family is notified.

    The Occupational Safety and Health Administration will launch an investigation after a man is killed in an industrial accident in Martinsville.  According to a city spokesman, Scott Coleman, it happened around 10:35 a.m. at a warehouse on East Commonwealth Boulevard.  The warehouse is owned by Lester Properties.  Coleman says one man was killed as a result of the “incident,“ but did not dtail what exactly happened.  OSHA will investigate through its Roanoke office.  Coleman says more details will be released later this afternoon.
