You see deer everywhere on the road.  Now Virginia is considered a high risk state when it comes to car accidents involving the animals.

State Farm says Virginia’s deer crash rate is up 28 percent.

The insurance company looked at data over a two year period and compared it to the last survey, completed five years ago.

William O’Brien with Roanoke Wreck Repair says those numbers match what he see in his body shop this time of year.  They’re working several deer damaged cars and trucks right now.

“It’s not a bread and butter thing but it definitely can be.  It picks up at the end of the year and lasts until about February.“, says O’Brien.

State Farm estimates you have a 1 in 137 chance of hitting a deer while driving in Virginia.
