RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - More details are coming out about the
arrest of a Mechanicsville man who’s accused of taking part in a
worldwide child pornography ring.
Thirty-three-year-old Michael Berger is charged with 35 federal
counts and appeared for a detention hearing Wednesday in U.S.
District Court in Richmond. His attorney, Todd Watson, declined to
comment on the case.
Court documents show that federal authorities seized more than
1,500 videotapes and DVDs from Berger’s home over the weekend.
He’s in the custody of federal marshals at Pamunkey Regional
Jail in Hanover County and will be transferred to Florida, where
the case is being prosecuted.
Authorities say Berger and 11 others traded more than 400,000
images of child sexual abuse and used encryption methods to avoid
detection.
