Deeds gains in VA governor’s race

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A Washington Post poll shows Republican Bob
McDonnell’s lead in the Virginia governor’s race is narrowing as
Democrat R. Creigh Deeds gains ground.
The poll, published Sunday, shows McDonnell leading 51 to 47
percent among voters who say they are certain to vote in November.
Just over a month ago, a Post poll had McDonnell, a former
attorney general, leading 54 to 39 percent among likely voters.
Deeds, a state senator, is especially gaining ground in Northern
Virginia, where he now leads McDonnell 57 to 40 percent among
likely voters. Last month, the two were about even in Northern
Virginia.
But McDonnell supporters are more enthusiastic about him than
Deeds supporters are about their candidate.
