Maurice Hairston, a 76-year-old truck driver from Martinsville, won the $500,000 Virginia Lottery jackpot game, where players scratch a ticket, a Virginia Lottery news release said.
Hairston bought the winning ticket on Oct. 31 at Stop In at 1406 Greensboro Road in Martinsville. The store receives a $10,000 bonus for selling a $500,000 winner.
When Hairston walked in to the Virginia Lotterys customer service center in Roanoke, he had barely slept in two days. He handed over a top-prize-winning ticket in the $500,000 Jackpot game.
“Now I can get some sleep!” he later told Lottery officials, according to a news release.
Hairston doesn’t plan to quit his job. “I’m not in debt. I just enjoy working,” he said in the release.
Hairston’s ticket is the second to hit the top prize. The Lottery says there aer two additional jackpot tickets left.
