U.S Marshals say they’ve captured a man wanted for kidnapping, armed robbery, and assault with a deadly weapon, and other charges in California, here in Virginia.

Marshals and Rockingham County Sheriff’s deputies got a tip from the Sacramento County, California Sheriff’s department, and found Igor Babiy working on a construction site in Harrisonburg.

Officers arrested Babiy, after a search of nearly five months.  Marshals tell us Babiy was released on two bonds that added up to $1.5 million back in October of 2007, and went on the run.

Babiy faces an additional charge of being a fugitive from justice.  The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office placed that charge against Babiy.  His previous charges from California include: Kidnap for Robbery, Armed Robbery, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Felony Evasion, DUI and malicious harm of a peace officer’s dog.

Babiy is awaiting extradition to California.  Babiy could face life in prison there.
