Congressman Tom Perriello spends Monday in Southside
Congressman Tom Perriello spends Monday in Southside, with stops in both Danville and Martinsville.
First he toured the Goodyear plant Monday morning. Perriello recently wrote a letter to protect language in a defense spending bill that would allow the government to consider bids for military tires from American companies, like Goodyear. Currently the Department of Defense uses only one tire contractor, Michelin, which makes its tires in Canada. The move could save or create jobs at Goodyear’s Danville plant.
After lunch Perriello visited Danville’s Bonner Middle School. There he spoke to 6th, 7th and 8th graders in the gifted program.
Late Monday afternoon, Perriello officially opened his Martinsville office. It’s the first permanent, congressional office in the city.
