Gubernatorial candidates turn tailgating into a campaign stop
Gubernatorial candidates turn tailgating into...
One of the biggest pluses about campaigning at a college football game is the ability to reach so many young voters. Both gubernatorial candidates have been shaking hands and answering questions for months now, but in the final stretch of the race 66,000 people in one spot sounds like one big campaign playground.
You could say Bob McDonnell and Creigh Deeds are trying to get voters in their sandbox.
“I got a lot of friends here at Virginia Tech that want to help me and introduce me to other voters today,” explained Republican candidate Bob McDonnell.
“I’m targeting anyone interested in turning out to vote November 3,” Democratic candidate, Creigh Deeds said.
Each new poll that comes out seems to widen the gap between their popularity.
A new Roanoke College poll says Deeds is trailing 17 points.
“The only poll that counts hasn’t been taken yet. That will be taken November 3rd,” Deeds said.
One of the biggest pluses about campaigning at a college football game is the ability to reach so many young voters.
The last presidential election they were a huge deciding factor.
“Young people registered in big numbers last year and I want to be able to reach out to the young voters and to say listen I’m concerned about the jobs that you’re looking for when you get out of college,” McDonnell said.
“One of the most important things that we do is to build the smartest workforce in the world, so we can attract the smartest jobs in Virginia,” said Deeds.
At campaign events you usually see Democrats wearing blue and Republican wearing red, but it seems both sides can agree on one thing and that’s the maroon and orange.
“I am for Virginia Tech it’s why I got the gobblers tie on right here. I’ll be rooting for the Hokies all the way,”
