House kills secondhand-goods bill
Published: March 6, 2008
The House of Delegates today killed a measure that would have made secondhand goods dealers comply with the same requirements as pawnbrokers. The bill, Senate Bill 604, died on a 73-24 vote.
The measure was designed to help police track stolen goods.
The bill would have require secondhand dealers to prepare a daily report of items sold to them and maintain those records for a year. Businesses also would have had to hold the goods for a number of days before reselling them.
