Senator Jim Webb talks health care reform on CNN’s State of the Union

President Obama promises health care reform will be here by the end of this year, but there are many bills still circulating in Congress.

The Senate and House leaders are trying to merge five bills, but Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union,“ Virginia Senator Jim Webb (D) criticized the way the health care reform has been handled.

Webb said, “They (The White House) should have come down with a very clear template in terms of what they were expecting.  From that we should have had hearings, and then the Congress should have legislated.  Having done it the reverse way, with the five different bills percolating up through the committees, it’s really difficult to see even what we are voting for.“

The bill from the Senate Finance Committee includes a non-profit cooperative option, instead of a public option.  It’s the only proposal to get any Republican support.
